Programs listed on this page are for middle schoolers and/or high schoolers. We know you're busy, so with the exception of any programs that require registration, all are drop-in programs: come when you can and leave when you want!

Procrastination Party
Procrastination Party for High Schoolers

5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Need a break from studying for finals? High schoolers can drop in for snacks and de-stress activities during finals week--free iced coffee and sodas provided. Did we mention our special guests? THERAPY DOGS! What better way to procrastinate than by petting some pups! (Canine visitors will arrive at 6:00pm.)

School's out for summer, but tune in to the Marion Public Library for the Teen Summer Reading Program: Libraries Rock! We've got cool prizes, events, and fun for 6th - 12th graders. Register online (or stop by the Information Desk) and get your Teen Reading Log. Set a daily reading goal for yourself--the more days you meet your goal, the more opporunities you have to win one of our grand prizes!

Rock Painting

Friday, June 1, 2018, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Libraries rock--literally, we have rocks. Tap into your creative side and drop in on Friday, June 1st to paint some stones! They make great gifts and decoration, or you can design yours to be part of our #CorridorReads scavenger hunt. Leave your painted rocks wherever you go this summer and make reading a social activity. Learn the Ukulele

every Tuesday in June, 2:00 - 2:45 p.m.

Learn how to play the ukulele this summer! Join our friend Kim Greiner as she teaches you how to play basic chords and songs. All instruments provided.

Rockin' Drop-In Teen Activities

every Thursday in June and July, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Headed to Marion by Moonlight? Hanging out at the Uptown Getdown? Cool off for a bit and stop by the library for a hands-on, teens-only activity. We'll be making candy sushi, playing minute-to-win-it games, coding robots, crafting Harry Potter wands, and more.

This program is for incoming 6th - 12th graders only! For other activities the whole family can enjoy together, check out our weekly Family Time program at the library every Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Music Fridays

most Fridays in June and July, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Music is awesome. Come sing, dance, eat, and hang out at these drop-in, teens-only events.

Gear up for some friendly competition at the Marion Public Library! We've got Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, Mario Kart--plus a new Nintendo Switch! And we have awesome board games like Betrayal at House on the Hill, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Exploding Kittens, and more. Come ready to play.

Teen Pathfinder Club

every other Wednesday in June and July
5:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Pathfinder is a roleplay game similar to Dungeons & Dragons! Shape your story through playing a character, rolling dice, and working together with your fellow team members. Join us as Game Master Derek brings the group into the world of Na'baz. No RPG experience necessary. All materials provided.

Get into roleplay gaming with Dungeons & Dragons! Whether you've never played before or have conquered many campaigns, roleplay games are fun, immersive experiences that explore narratives, build teamwork, and shape stories with dice. No RPG experience necessary. All materials provided.

High School Hangout

Wednesday, June 20 and Wednesday, July 18
5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Hang with friends at this drop-in space just for high schoolers. Play with Google Cardboard virtual reality goggles, get into gaming or craft some creations, eat pizza and popcorn, and more. This program is for incoming 9th-12th graders only!

Ever wanted to learn how to play guitar? Register for our free “Guitar Like a Star” event for middle and high schoolers! Taught by award-winning musician and educator, Aspen Black, the program introduces you to the basics of playing the guitar in a fun, easy format. All musical instruments will be provided. Lego Mindstorms: Robotics Program for Teens

Try your hand at coding with Lego Mindstorms EV3! Middle and high schoolers will be able to build bots and experiment with beginning programming. All abilities welcome. Registration required.

Anime Treat & Meet

Thursday, July 26, 2018, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Love all things anime and manga? Come to the library on Thursday, July 26th from 3-5pm to create and sample delicious Japanese food with a local Hy-Vee dietician, then meet and chat with someone in the anime business. Registration required.

Teen Musical Murder Mystery Lock-In

Friday, July 27, 2018, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Put on your detective cap and help solve the mystery: Murder and Mayhem at the Teen Idol Awards! Each participant will be assigned a character for the evening. Costumes are encouraged, and props will be available at the library. No weapons, real or fake, are allowed. Registration and permission form required.
