Programs listed on this page are for middle schoolers and/or high schoolers. We know you're busy, so with the exception of any programs that require registration, all are drop-in programs: come when you can and leave when you want!

Teen Summer Reading Program: Libraries Rock!

June 1 - July 27, 2018


School's out for summer, but tune in to the Marion Public Library for the Teen Summer Reading Program: Libraries Rock! We've got cool prizes, events, and free fun for 6th - 12th graders. Register online (or stop by the Information Desk) and get your Teen Reading Log. Set a daily reading goal for yourself--the more days you meet your goal, the more opporunities you have to win one of our grand prizes!

Lego Mindstorms
Lego Mindstorms: Robotics Program for Teens

Tuesday, July 10 - Thursday, July 12, 2018
3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Try your hand at coding with Lego Mindstorms EV3! Teens will be able to build bots and experiment with beginning programming. All abilities welcome. Registration required.


Rockin' Drop-In Teen Activities

every Thursday in July and August, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Headed to Marion by Moonlight? Hanging out at the Uptown Getdown? Cool off for a bit and stop by the library for a hands-on, teens-only activity. We'll be playing minute-to-win-it games, coding robots, crafting Harry Potter wands, and more.

This program is for incoming 6th - 12th graders only! For other activities the whole family can enjoy together, check out our weekly Family Time program at the library every Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Music Fridays

most Fridays in July, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Music is awesome. Come sing, dance, eat, and hang out at these drop-in, teens-only events.

Roleplay Mondays
Roleplay Mondays

Mondays in July and August, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Get into roleplay gaming with Dungeons & Dragons (5th edition)! Whether you've never played before or have conquered many campaigns, roleplay games are fun, immersive experiences that explore narratives, build teamwork, and shape stories with dice. No RPG experience necessary. All materials provided.

High School Hangout

Wednesday, July 18, 2018, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Hang with friends at this drop-in space just for high schoolers. Play with Google Cardboard virtual reality goggles, get into gaming, eat pizza and popcorn, and more. This program is for incoming 9th-12th graders only!

Teen Game Day

Tuesday, July 24, 2018, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Fridays in August, 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Gear up for some friendly competition at the Marion Public Library! We've got Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, Mario Kart--plus a new Nintendo Switch! And we have awesome board games like Betrayal at House on the Hill, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Exploding Kittens, and more. Come ready to play.

Teen Pathfinder Club

Pathfinder is a roleplay game similar to Dungeons & Dragons! Shape your story through playing a character, rolling dice, and working together with your fellow team members. Join us as Game Master Derek brings the group into the world of Na'baz. No RPG experience necessary. All materials provided.

Teen Japanese Cooking Class
Teen Japanese Cooking Class

Thursday, July 26, 2018, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Are you interested in anime, manga, or Japanese culture? Want to learn how to cook some Japanese cuisine? Come to the library on Thursday, July 26th from 3-5pm to create and sample delicious cultural food with a local Hy-Vee dietician. Registration required.


Musical Murder Mystery Lock-In
Teen Musical Murder Mystery Lock-In

Friday, July 27, 2018, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Put on your detective cap and help solve the mystery: Murder and Mayhem at the Teen Idol Awards! Each participant will be assigned a character for the evening. Costumes are encouraged, and props will be available at the library. No weapons, real or fake, are allowed. Registration and permission form required.

Teen Sundae Competition

Wednesday, August 8, 2018, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Teens: come test your sundae skills! Local judges will decide who has the best ice cream concotions, with awards given in a variety of categories. Registration required.
TCR Improv Class for High Schoolers

Tuesday, August 14, 2018, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.

Join Theatre Cedar Rapids at the Marion Public Library for a free improv class for teens! 9th-12th graders will learn the basics of improvisation and get a chance to flex their improv muscles. Yes, and... when is it happening? Tuesday, August 14th from 4:30-6pm. Registration required.


Teen Donut Diorama Day
Friday, August 24, 2018, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Dare to design and devour delicious donut dioramas with local guests from the Marion Police Department. Awards will be given for categories including Most Stable Structure, Most Edible, Most Creative, and more! Open to incoming 5th-12th graders. Registration required.
